The Story so far…
In 1957, The founder of J. Jacobs Ltd, Daniel Jacobs began his apprenticeship at the age of 16 in Hatton Garden. During the following 15 years he became skilled as a ring maker, a diamond mounter, a goldsmith and as his mentor Aaron Lewis Smith was producing fine and precious copies of Victorian Jewellery.
He continued to work in “The Garden” until the late 1960’s, when he took up a post in Beverley Hills, California, in the famous Rodeo Drive, making pieces for many famous entertainers. He then returned to London to set up his own business working for the trade. The most famous recipient of his skill since then was the recently departed HRH The Queen Mother.
In 1996, he was joined in the business by his son, Barry Jacobs, who has created the Handmade Jewellery Company. The Handmade Jewellery Company offers a unique service offering hand made, one off designs made in the UK. Every single item in their new collection is unique and individual. Many with fascinating stories behind them. Platinum is predominantly used in a fresh innovative way, distinctive personal style, using local craftsmen with rare and precious skills in line with the quality of the materials with which they work.
The company is now regarded as one of the finest makers of hand made, fine jewellery in the business and their close association with the Platinum Guild has further enhanced an already “glittering” reputation.
